CASE STUDY – UK BOARDING SCHOOL

Baxter Environmental have been working with a large, well-known boarding school that has a commitment to Sustainability. As part of its effort to reduce its Environmental footprint,  Baxter Environmental were commissioned to implement a comprehensive Waste Management program that Inspires the School, Transforms the Waste Management and Changes the Environment. The Challenge Problems being experienced on our first Waste Audit were as follows: - Unsatisfactory service from a current waste contractor often resulting in missed lifts - Collection of empty bins on a weekly basis resulting in overspending budget by 30% - Redundant waste equipment due to a lack of Waste Management strategy. - Minimal segregation onsite resulting in more than necessary going through General Waste. - No Food Waste recycling In addition, the school was spending a significant amount of money on Waste disposal. The Solution To address these challenges, Baxter Environmental implemented a Waste & Recycling Management program that included the following initiatives: - Conducted several onsite Waste Audits  - Identified the recycling opportunities - Reduced the number of collections onsite - Commenced recycling of some waste streams, including Food - Utilised waste equipment onsite to reduce carbon footprint The Results Thanks to the implementation of these initiatives, Baxter Environmental successfully transitioned the school and upgraded the Waste Management program. Some key results include: - Reduced carbon footprint by over 50% - Increased the recycling rate by over 30% - Reduced spend by over 20% Furthermore, the school now receives a consistent Waste Management service whilst also delivering on an Environmental commitment of Zero to Landfill This new Waste & Recycling Management program for the school serves as a model for other educational institutions looking to reduce their Environmental impact, while also saving money and promoting a culture of Sustainability.

CASE STUDY – TRANSFORMING WASTE MANAGEMENT FOR A UK-WIDE PRIVATE EDUCATION TRUST

A UK-wide private education trust with 27 schools and over 3,500 students was facing challenges in managing waste across its multiple locations. The organization was committed to delivering high-quality education and was seeking a sustainable and efficient solution to address its waste management concerns. Challenges: Several challenges were identified in our Waste Audits: 1. Waste management practices were decentralized leading to inefficiencies, increased costs, and environmental concerns. 2. Lack of unified waste management strategies across the UK schools resulted in inconsistent waste disposal methods and limited recycling initiatives. Solution: To enhance the waste management strategy of the organization, Baxter put into practice a custom-made waste management solution through the following measures: - Conducted detailed waste audits at each school to identify the types and quantities of waste produced. - Established specific waste reduction targets, recycling initiatives, and guidelines for proper waste disposal. - Recommended and implemented the necessary infrastructure upgrades, such as introducing recycling bins, composting facilities, and waste separation systems. Results: This collaboration resulted in significant improvements in waste management practices across the UK schools: - Implementation of recycling programs and waste reduction strategies led to a substantial decrease in landfill waste. - Consolidated the waste providers of the trust from over 60 individual providers to a single point of contact. - The optimized waste management processes and increased recycling efforts led to cost savings, contributing to the organization's financial sustainability. The partnership not only improved waste disposal practices but also contributed to a positive environmental and financial impact for the education provider. This case study highlights the importance of collaboration between environmental services experts and organizations committed to responsible waste management.
