New Wood Waste Regulations

It has now become illegal to mix hazardous wood waste and non-hazardous wood waste at a wood processing site, meaning any hazardous wood will need to be separated and tested to ensure the best disposal route of the wood waste.

 

The items that could potentially be classified as hazardous are from buildings built pre 2007, the following items will need to be tested for hazardous properties.

  • Barge Boards

  • External Joinery (wooden windows & conservatories)

  • External Doors

  • Roof Timbers

  • Tiling and Cladding Batters

  • Timber Frames/Joists

 

In addition to the above the existing hazardous wood items are, telegraph poles, railway sleepers and treated woods.

 

The Wood Recycling Association is working closely with the EA to ascertain if all of the items will remain in the hazardous listing, by monitoring the results, and we will keep you updated if there are any further updates.

 

Some service providers are equipped to dispose of this wood, whereas others are no longer able to accept these materials at all. Please let us know if you have any hazardous wood waste to dispose of before placing the items in the skip/RORO, as additional charges may be applied due to the new processing requirements.
