Sprite labels get stripped!

Coca-Cola is conducting a trial to simplify the recycling process by temporarily removing the Sprite and Sprite Zero labels from on-the-go bottles. Although the existing labels are fully recyclable, the brand believes that removing them could make the recycling process simpler and reduce the overall amount of material used. The trial will take place from January to March 2024 and will be limited to selected cities in the UK.

In recent times, Coca-Cola has taken several steps to reduce packaging waste. One of the measures includes changing the color of Sprite bottles from green to clear plastic to make it easier to recycle them back into bottles. Additionally, the company has introduced attached caps to its bottles to ensure that the cap remains connected to the bottle after opening, thereby reducing the likelihood of littering.

Dusan Stojankic, VP Franchise Operations, GB&I at Coca‑Cola Great Britain commented: “We want to help create a future where plastic drink packaging will always have more than one life. Labels contain valuable information for consumers, but with the help of technology we can now trial other ways to share this information while reducing the amount of packaging we use. Going label-less might seem like a small step, but it is one of several ways we are exploring making recycling easier, minimising waste, and minimising the impact of our packaging on the environment.”

Initiatives like these are a significant step forward in sustainability, inspiring other brands to follow suit and reduce the environmental impacts of their products.

What changes will your brand make today to help create a more sustainable future?
