Waitrose has recently announced they are ditching glass bottles across its range of small wines and will move to aluminium cans, this is for serving typically below 250ml. Further supermarkets have followed suit, making these products a more of a common sight in all supermarkets.
This change has been put in place as aluminium cans weigh significantly less than glass and create less the amount of CO2 than a single use glass bottle, therefore creating less of a carbon footprint. This could help save over 300 tonnes of glass packaging.
This is not a first in the wine industry, Kiss of Wine is a German-based independent winemakers, producing canned wine, and supermarkets are following the trend.
There are many benefits of canned wine, such as:
It is easily recyclable
Easier to transport
Saves waste
Reduces the chances of over consumption
